The National Theatre Mannheim stands as one of Germany's largest and oldest municipal repertory theatres. Its legacy is deeply intertwined with the works of Schiller and its connection to Mozart, shaping its endeavors to this day. A plethora of premieres, both national and German, across its four divisions of opera, drama, dance, and young national theatre, along with the establishment of the Mannheimer Citizens' Theatre in 2012, now known as the Mannheimer City Ensemble, serve as testament to the innovative and contemporary continuation of its traditions. With outstanding artistic achievements, the NTM proudly serves as the flagship of Mannheim and holds a prominent position as one of Germany's foremost stages nationally.
Our construction site documentation offers an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes of the ongoing comprehensive renovation of the National Theatre Mannheim. The historical edifice situated at Goetheplatz, under the auspices of monument protection, undergoes substantial modernization to ensure its functionality and quality for decades to come.
During a private tour, we were briefed on the theater's history and had the opportunity to explore various areas employing Kiefer products. Within the opera and drama houses, all visible surfaces, including walls, ceilings, and floors, are being meticulously restored in adherence to monument preservation standards. The accompanying images showcase the visitor hall of the opera house, where seating and integrated ventilation systems are being updated. Kiefer has been entrusted with designing an enhanced air outlet, configured in a trapezoidal shape for optimized air circulation, to be embedded into the floor. With successful development and approval from the client, production of the stepped air diffuser is now underway.
Be sure to check back on our News page soon for further updates, including insights into our experimental setups at the Kiefer development laboratory and the developmental stages of the new air outlet.
